29 мая 2014 Constantin Orasan. «Introduction to applied computational linguistics»

В период с 24 по 29 марта 2014 года на базе кафедры иностранных языков для студентов профиля «Теоретическая и прикладная лингвистика» был прочитан курс «INTRODUCTION TO APPLIED COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS» приглашенного профессора из Университета г. Вулверхемптон (Великобритания) Константина Орасана. Курс читался на английском языке.

Курс состоял из 5 лекций, каждая из которых освещала одну из наиболее актуальных проблем современной прикладной лингвистики:

• Lecture 1: INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS: WHY AUTOMATIC LANGUAGE PROCESSING IS DIFFICULT
• Lecture 2: CORPORA AND HOW TO USE THEM: GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CORPORA, ANNOTATION, HOW TO USE CORPORA
• Lecture 3: RATIONALIST VS. EMPIRICAL APPROACHES: EXAMPLE OF MACHINE TRANSLATION
• Lecture 4: CURRENT APPLICATION IN CL: SENTIMENT ANALYSIS (SEE HOW TO DESIGN A RULE BASED/ML BASED SENTIMENT CLASSIFIER)
• Lecture 5: LANGUAGE PROCESSING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST PROJECT

Благодаря этому курсу студенты направления узнали о насущных проблемах своей будущей профессии, попробовали свои силы в решении некоторых из стоящих перед лингвистами задач, улучшили свои коммуникативные навыки в английском языке, а также получили новые впечатления и завязали новые знакомства.

I am currently reader in computational linguistics at University of Wolverhampton, and the deputy head of the Research Group in Computational Linguistics. I am also the Local Course Coordinator (Wolverhampton) for the Erasmus Mundus International Masters in Natural Language Processing and Human Language Technology (IM NLP&HLT), coordinator of the FIRST project and coordinator of the EXPERT project. In the past, I managed two European projects QALL-ME and MESSAGE and was involved in many other projects. Before becoming a lecturer, I worked as research fellow on the CAST project.

I have received my BSc in computer science at Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania and my PhD from University of Wolverhampton with a thesis entitled Comparative evaluation of modular automatic summarisation systems using CAST under the supervision of Prof. Ruslan Mitkov and Dr. Chris Paice.
I am currently the module leader of a course on programming for corpus linguistics and am also teaching on two other masters courses.

My research interests in computational linguistics are text summarisation, question answering, anaphora and coreference resolution, building, annotation and exploitation of corpora and machine learning for natural language processing.
